The duration between two training sessions is of great importance for every athlete. The body has to recover during that time. Too long breaks can lead to a reduction in performance, but when the breaks between training sessions are too short, this will inevitably lead to overtraining. The right balance between training and recovery is crucial. The lifestyle of the athlete has to be tailored in such a way that the physical and mental recovery are good. A healthy lifestyle, varied food and a good night’s rest contribute to an optimal recovery of (professional) athletes.

An optimal antioxidant status in the body is important for the preservation of a good health. Antioxidants contribute to the scavenging of free radicals and protect cells from oxidative damage. Many free radicals are formed in the body cells during an intense training session. The body has enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium). Antioxidants from food and supplements can help to protect against free radicals. For that reason, many athletes use extra antioxidants after intensive training periods.

Sport Support Gold
Sport Support is highly suitable for (professional) athletes. The best time to use Sport Support is after a game season, an intensive training period or when injured.
Sport Support Gold contains three non-enzymatic antioxidants: vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium. These are added to scavenge the free radicals.
Vitamin E is an important lipid-soluble antioxidant, and vitamin C is an important water-soluble antioxidant. Vitamin C is an antioxidant for vitamin E and makes it active.** In addition to vitamin C and E, selenium is added. Vitamin C also supports the immune system. The vitamin helps to maintain a strong resistance during and after a training session or athletic performance. Athletes can benefit from the proven supportive effect of vitamin C, which is a reduction in tiredness and fatigue. Selenium is an antioxidant as well.

The antioxidants in Sport Support Gold are complemented by VinOserae and OPC extract from red grapes. This extract contains a lot of polyphenols and t-resveratrol (≥ 0.12%). *** Sport Support Gold contains natural carotenoids, flavonoids and a natural vegetable complex.

Sport Support Gold is endowed with the NZVT logo. NZVT is an abbreviation of the ‘Nederlands Zekerheidssysteem Voedingssupplementen Topsport’ (Anti-Doping Authority for the Netherlands.) This certification guarantees the athlete that the dietary supplement is free of doping.

Antioxidants (naturally produced and from nutrition) protect the tissue and cells against free radicals which are formed in (muscle) cells after oxidative processes in the mitochondria. These free radicals have an unwanted effect on various functions in the cell, which means that they can no longer function optimally. The more intensive the exertion, the more free radicals are formed.

Can be used by

  • Starting athletes (naturally produced antioxidants are still insufficient).
  • Athletes that train occasionally (for example once a week or in weekends).
  • Athletes (during tournaments or competitions).
  • Athletes that are overloaded / over trained.
  • Deficiencies or unbalanced dietary patterns that contain too few antioxidants. For example when staying abroad in a place with little access to fruit and vegetables.
  • Excessive exposure to oxidative stress (smog, a lot of travelling, high altitude). At high altitudes there is an increase in free radical formation and the naturally produced antioxidant system is weakened due to the lower amount of oxygen in the air.
  • Well-trained athletes should not combine antioxidants with endurance training. Oxidative damage is part of the adaptation process.

Additional information

  • Training improves the body’s antioxidant system.
  • The antioxidant system of an athletes body is more developed than that of untrained people or starting athletes.
  • Short periods (1 to 2 weeks) of >200 mg vitamin C a day can have a positive effect on high stress, such as illness coming up (Braakhuis 2012).
  • Vitamin C plays a role in the production of collagen.
  • High doses of antioxidants (especially vitamin C and E) combined with (endurance) training and strength training (Paulsen 2014) can negatively influence the effect of a training (degree of adaption).
