Joëlle Smits has been inseparable from the football pitch since she was five. She started playing among the boys, but by the age of ten, she received her first invitation from the KNVB to train with other girls her age. That’s when she realized, “Football really suits me, and this is what I want.”

In 2017, Joëlle signed her first professional contract with FC Twente for two years. After two strong seasons, during which she became the Eredivisie top scorer in her second season, she made the move to PSV in 2019, where she further honed her goal-scoring instincts. She also finished as the Eredivisie’s top scorer in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

Joëlle’s talent did not go unnoticed: in 2021, she signed with German club VfL Wolfsburg, where she won both the league title and the cup. In 2022, she returned to PSV seeking more playing time, signing a three-year contract.

For Joëlle, football is about more than just performing: it’s about fighting together for the result and working as a team to play the right way, both tactically and mentally. Her advice? “Always give 100%, but most importantly, enjoy what you do! Set goals for yourself, even small ones help you turn big dreams into reality.”
