At just 24, Jonathan Homberg is enjoying a breakthrough year, with two national titles and strong performances on the international circuit. In this interview, he talks about his intense training routine, his partnership with Virtuoos and his advice for young triathletes.
1. Can you introduce yourself and tell us where your love for triathlon started?
My Name is Jonathan Homberg, I’m from Germany and 24 years young. This year was like a breakthrough year with two national titles and very good performances on the middledistance in the international circuit. I’m in my second professional year and started with triathlon in 2022 after doing a lot of different sports in my youth years. I got inspired to start triathlon from my elementary school sports teacher, I still train with her today.
2. What does a typical training day look like for you?
Typical day start with my alarm at 5am and then I drive to the pool where I swim normally from 6:15 till 8am. From there I drive back home eat a big breakfast and rest then until 10-11, normally then I have a run session which takes between 1-1:30 hour. After that I eat again and rest a bit until 2-3pm, and then I cycle around 2 hours. Then is the day normally over and I just eat again and relax a bit until 8pm. At 8pm I typically start to sleep, to have a good night of sleep, because the next day starts again at 5am.
3. Which Virtuoos products are part of your daily routine, from sports nutrition to vitamins and recovery?
My most used product is definitely the Vegan Protein Blend Gold, which I take after nearly every session. Also I take everyday Collagen, Probiotic, Joint Support and the Multi Health Support Gold (without B6), which I typically take after my breakfast. In raceweek, I take Beetroot shots as a part of my preparation.

4. What is one tip you would give to young or aspiring triathlon talents?
Enjoy your youth years and don’t concentrate only on one sport, try everything out and don’t specialise to early on one sport. Training should be fun and not only performance. For performance you have enough time when you are older.
5. What does your partnership with Virtuoos mean to you, and how does it support you in your journey?
It is important to have a healthy body especially when you’re training between 5-6 hours nearly every day. Virtuoos is here a big help for me because I can rely on the quality of the products and can keep my focus on training.
Besides that, I want to be able to do sports still after my career. There is for every purpose a product which helps me to get on top of everything I need.
6. We always like to add a personal touch to our interviews. What’s your favorite meal or dish?
My favourite meal would definitely be pancakes, I could eat them at any time of the day, there are so many different options how to eat them. And my favourite snack between training sessions are my selfmade cinnamon buns!
